I had never been to Italy before, so it was with great delight that we set out on Saturday to visit Trieste, a short hour-and-twenty-minute drive from Ljubljana.
We were delighted to see it was even better than we expected!
For lunch we had pizza -- of course!
Trieste sits on a hill right on the Adriatic Sea, which makes it beautiful -- but also a little treacherous trying to drive in or out of town! Pete thought it was all an adventure, but I was not very fond of driving on steep two-way streets that were only one lane. When someone came in the opposite direction, we had to back down the mountain until we could find a place to pull over. A little nerve-wracking in stick-shift car!
But once we got back up to the top of the hill and could look out, we saw this:
We couldn't spend long in Italy because we still had more explore in Slovenia, so we headed back.
