Another memory

This was the year Wordle was popular.  Strider and I text almost every day with our scores and Miles often beats us all.

Snowy winter

This year ended up being a very snowing one for the ol' GC.  For about 6 weeks we never saw the grass.  The kids didn't complain, though -- they had a great time sledding, snowshoeing, building forts, have snowball fights, building caves and tunnels, etc.  And a lot of it was pretty!

Gus, on the other hand, was not as amused.

13

We all thought Miles had already been a teenager for awhile now, but the calendar finally confirmed it.  His 13th birthday was a lot of fun, including bowling with his siblings and Bereket, and an evening with fancy food on campus where he was the only kid.  He also asked me to make him Mom's famous carrot cake, which was a big hit.  Let the teenage years (officially) begin!

Lunar New Year

This year our next-door neighbor had the wonderful idea to make a bunch of Asian specialties for the students at GCCA to celebrate Lunar New Year.  She invited Jinna to accompany her in the kitchen so they could share their Asian heritage together with the rest of the school.

What a treat it was!  Laura put together several different kinds of dishes and the students and teachers went wild for it all.

Jinna was thrilled!

She and some of the rest of the family also attended the New Year celebration on campus put on my the Asian student group.  Reports were that the food was delicious!

Science Fair

Miles placed 2nd in this year's CC Science Fair!

Since one of his major obsessions these days is disc golf, he decided to develop his project around that, asking the question, "What is the optimal angle of launch" for a particular disc?  We borrowed a clay pigeon shooter so he could consistently launch the disc at the same speed and rotation, and was able to use some templates to measure the horizontal angle from the ground.

After 6 different days of testing, he found his results and wrote the paper.

The evening of the science fair was basically a blizzard, but the show went on!  Congrats, Milo.

Winter weekend excursions

The boys got to have some fun adventures this month -- one indoor and one outdoor.

They went skiing at Seven Springs with the Boyers:

And they also went to a Cav's game in Cleveland, with a visit to the grandparents' afterwards.

Meanwhile we girls stayed home and did things like puzzles -- with Gus -- and baking bread for people, which was just fine with us.
