Not boring

The life of a stay-at-home mom is certainly full of variety.  Today, for instance, I, made a loaf of bread of the cross-country team dinner, made cookies for the soccer banquet, made frosted brownies for a ladies’ event, took a kid to the chiropractor, helped a kid with a pre-calc word problem, taught another kid about diagramming sentences, helped another kid with a job application, was interviewed as a guest for a homeschooling podcast, did some research about classical education and college and career advising, played all out in a parents-vs-kids soccer game (we lost), attended the soccer banquet (for 7 minutes), and helped out with the ladies’ event on campus.  Oh, and laundry.  There’s always laundry.

(I’m a little worried that if I stop moving my back might seize up after repeated sprinting in the soccer game, and my jaw isn’t quite closing properly after getting a ball in the face, so tomorrow may end up being a quieter day.)

p.s., I had the “Doogie Howser” music playing in my head as I was writing this.

Stellar Soccer Season

Miles' 3rd year on the GCCA soccer team has been his favorite yet, and he even was elected the team captain this year!  It was fun watching them play; they've become so strong over the years.

That hair, tho....

Friends from NC!

October proved to be a prime month for hosting friends, and we loved every minute of it.

The Burkes, the Linns and Hayley all drove up during their fall break to visit us here and it was a blast!

We took a tour of the college...

...walked around a disc golf course,

..visited Emmetts Orchard,

ate at Strider's restaurant, and enjoyed some music and laughter in the evenings.

It was so wonderful to see some of our favorite people for extended time!

(It was also during their visit that I discovered-- thanks to the fact that 2 of them are nurses and 1 is a doctor -- that I had shingles.  Thankfully it didn't get too bad until after they had left, so that was good timing.)

A couple weeks later some more friends, the Timberlakes, came up for NC, too, but I didn't get any pictures of that visit.  Unfortunately, they chose the 3 coldest days of the entire fall -- it even snowed! -- to be here.... but we still were so happy to see them!

Homecoming

The college homecoming weekend was another fun one!  The Joyner family came to stay for a few days, and Fran and his son came for the day as well, so we had a fun lunch together.  But first, the parade!

We had to duck out from the parade to get to the park because the cross country team was also hosting their big invitational that day!

Then he rushed back home for lunch and then headed out to what would be a rather soggy wet football game.  Thankfully the rain cleared out before the alumni lacrosse game, though, and Fran captured this amazing image of a sunset rainbow to close out the fun, full day.
