New Year's celebrations

After our traditional New Year's Eve dinner of pork and sauerkraut (made by my German-ish husband)...
... we started to get dressed up for our big family celebration.  (Once Rayna saw me getting nicer clothes on, she wanted to also.  She insisted on wearing her flower-girl dress from last spring, and then when she saw my belt, she wanted one, too!)

After most of the kids were in bed, though, Pete and I went to a real, adult party!  It was so fun -- and classy!  We're so not used to that!
On New Year's Day, we went up to my parents' house for another classy meal -- this time with kids, though.  :)

Since 2011 marks the year that Mor-Mor will turn 90, we started off her birthday celebration a tad early!  We shared a lot of Mor-Mor-and-Grandpa stories, watched a video about her life, and had birthday cake (berries for Mor-Mor).

Four generations of ladies:

And 4 generations of first-borns!
(Thanks for looking so cheery, Strider)

We seem to be getting decidedly less Scandavian-looking with each generation.

It's been wonderful having Mor-Mor here to celebrate holidays and birthdays this season!  A good start to a new year.

(Oh -- and the other notable thing about this New Year's Day was that we took a small step toward acclimating to our new Southern culture:  we had collard greens for dinner!  And they were actually pretty alright.... but then I guess anything tastes good with bacon.)
