Inaugural Schole Dinner

A couple weeks ago we started a new thing for older middle schoolers in the area:  Schole dinners.  The idea (largely formed by my friend Emily) is to have area experts (generally professors) come and lead a discussion on a topic that is relevant for kids to learn at (and in) this age, as they eat a good dinner together.

So for this first one Pete was the discussion leader and he talked about the differences between socialism and capitalism.  After some icebreaker games the kids all sat down to listen and talk for a couple of hours... Our goal was not to bore them but inspire them....  Hopefully?

We can thank our multiple months of quarantine for the fact that the kids did not balk at getting dressed up and coming to do something academic on a hot July night!

Topics in the future include gender issues, race issues, more politics, some theology, some literature, and other questions that come up in the culture.  We hope this will be a rich time!
