AFD: 2011 version

What do the following have in common?
  • Toilet-papering the parents' bedroom
  • Putting half a cup of salt in our drinking water
  • Exchanging all the bags of cereal into the wrong boxes
  • Dyeing water red and giving it to a younger sibling, telling him its juice
  • Taking all of our underwear and hiding it
  • Putting a balloon on the tailpipe of the car
  • Pretending to have found a bloody thumb and put it in a box
  • Telling your uncle that your mom got a speeding ticket on the way to the restaurant

A.) They're all April's Fools pranks that a 10-year old finds hilarious
B.)  They were all done in our house today by a 10-year old
C.)  All of the above
D.)  I'm too worn out to think of any other options

 Yep.

Since Strider has largely taken over this holiday, Pete and I have found it less necessary to participate as pranksters.... although I did put mustaches on all the kids as they slept last night (thanks to an idea from cousin Beth!)

Although maybe the joke got turned on me, when later on the face-drawing got a little more out of control...

Pete's big trick this morning was to make the kids "fried eggs."

The kids can't stand fried eggs:
Once they realized they were really made out of marshmallows and dried apricots, they suddenly became much more palatable (the eggs, I mean).

Even Colsen got into the action, tricking our next-door neighbor with a believable story about Pete's leg being broken.  And Milo continued to play his regular tricks (he doesn't need a special holiday), such as causing large piles of dirty laundry to appear due to his spills and calamities.  Rayna was the typical good sport and laugher-along at it all.

Pete wisely scheduled a business trip so he could miss the 2nd half of the day.

So the rest of us decided to meet Dan, Amy, Kai, Addie, Nonna and Poppa at a pizza place for dinner!

I'm not sure if this picture is blurry or not... but this is about how the scene looked to me all night (even without consuming any beer):

Dan made the unfortunate decision to sit on the "booth" side with all the kids...

... which made him part of the Jungle Gym for most of the evening.
Happy April Fool's Day!

(--Oh, and for the record, I tricked Dan TWICE and Amy once, and Poppa tricked Strider twice.  Such a tricky bunch.)

  2. My kids are going to be so happy to read this! On our way back from Florida (long car ride!!) they began recollecting Strider's past tricks and wondering what he'd cooked up for this April Fool's Day. He's famous ;0)
