Staycation

Today is our second annual Kids' Staycation. As requested by Strider, they get a whole day to do whatever they want at home for the last day of summer vacation (yes, school starts tomorrow!). For the second year in a row, they've chosen to have a Brady Bunch marathon.

We bought the Season 5 DVD's, and opened the box today.... and ever since 8:30 this morning, I've been hearing "Here's the story of a lovely lady" over and over. Mid-day reviews included the report that "this is the best season ever!"

Colsen had some bonus activity this morning when a truck came to our neighbor's house:
... and he equipped himself with tools, just in case.

And there was a request to do a science experiment in the afternoon:

I had no idea borax and glue made such gooey gunk.

But the rest of the day has looked a lot like this:
Personally, I think this idea has been one of our better ones. The kids are occupied all day, giving me some opportunity to prepare for the start of school tomorrow.

Plus, I figure if the kids' brains turn to mush and/or are emptied of all original thought, their minds will only be that more moldable, and ready be filled up with all kinds of good stuff -- just in time for school!

My only major concern at this point is that Season 5 is the last Brady Bunch season. Is there any chance the cast could reunite and film some more episodes soon? Otherwise, I don't know what we'll do for next year's Staycation!
