Getting together with the extended Wray family is just like a dinner with all the Bravermans (on "Parenthood") -- if they also invited an entire kindergarten class.
We had a lot of our family over yesterday to celebrate Katie's and Colsen's birthdays. I guess it had been awhile since everyone gathered at our regular-size home... I think the family seems to have doubled in size since the last time we did. Our house felt very, very small.
Everywhere I looked, there were several adults standing around trying to shout conversations over the din, about 7-8 people about 3 feet tall weaving in and out of the adults' legs, and little pieces of toys and wrapping paper from the gifts people brought all over the floor. I wish I had taken more pictures... but here are a few we got (some thanks to Karin).
Outside, we had kids jumping on the trampoline, kids swinging, kids sliding, kids zip-lining...
And inside, we had all kinds of noise... including three times the piano-banging....
... and a "taste test" being conducted as research for a science fair -- of course. The Bravermans probably do that, right?
We also had some fun cake celebratory time:
There were a lot of cousins on hand (13, actually...though it felt more like 20). And there was even an extra cousin-of-a-cousin in attendance, sweet Caroline. (The best part about this was watching Mom and Dad's reactions when they showed up later and tried to figure out who this "grandchild" was and why they couldn't remember her! I think they really thought they were starting to lose it.) She is apparently quite surreptitious and/or ubiquitous, as she made it into a surprising number of the shots above!
Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of the family dinner time.... but we can just picture it like this:
Well, that PLUS a grade-school bus full of field-trip kids.
