Promoted

This week Pete received an official letter informing him that he had been approved for a promotion! Considering the fact that there are really only 2 opportunities for promotion in the career of a professor, this is rather significant. Basically there are 3 rungs in the professorial career ladder: associate, assistant and full professor. I can never remember which comes first -- associate or assisant -- so Pete was either just approved to be promoted from associate to assistant, or assistant to associate.

So, starting next school year, he will now be either an associate or an assistant, I'm not sure which. Either way, I'm very proud of him!

It turns out this promotion is not just a "given" -- he had to work hard, and then spend a lot of time filling out paperwork about how hard he worked. So, we're very happy he was approved. Normally this could come with a slight salary increase, but he was told (unofficially) that this was probably not the best year to be promoted, due to the tight budgets everywhere.... Oh well. The life of a professor is rich in other ways. :)

I still think it's funny that he's a professor -- he seems far too cool to be one. And too handsome.

(When he reads this, he's going to say, "A-my...." in his low, disapproving but secretly happy way. :) )

  3. Whew, good thing your friend Heather cleared up the onfusion. I thought you'd have to resort to calling him an ass. professor! ;)

    Congratulations on the promotion, Pete!
