Beginning of Advent

This weekend we were able to celebrate this special season in several ways with both friends and family members.  Mor-Mor has made the long trek down to NC once again this year, and are so grateful to be able to see her!  Together, we made an additional trek on Saturday -- to Bethlehem.

The camel was a main attraction for my boys
The marketplace was fun, too.  Milo was all about getting coins so he could buy little pots

Of course the REAL main attraction was the baby in the stable.  Even the wise men showed up to see Him.
It was a fun outing -- with these folks, and Dan, Addie and Kai who left before I took this picture.

Yesterday we had a festive and vibrant lunch with our church family, then came home to make advent wreaths with some friends -- and have hot chocolate, of course, even though it was 70 degrees out!

Some cheerful reindeer
Last night was also our neighborhood's tree lighting, so we quickly ran down to hear some carols and verses...

.... and then the lights came on!
We got to see Santa....
... and then went for a ride in a horse-drawn carriage:

Strider was at Car Care on Saturday, and youth group on Sunday night, so missed some of these festivities.  It's a little weird only have 3 kids around with us sometimes.... Already getting glimpses of the birds leaving the nest.   :(

Last night we lit our first candle on our newly-made wreath, and tonight we're finishing up our Advent chain. The anticipation is starting to build as we look forward -- and backward -- to that world-changing Birth Day!
