Jelly's adventurous life

Several years ago Rayna received a doll whom she started calling Jelly. This past year, Jelly has apparently been adopted/co-opted by Colsen, and although he never actually plays with her, she has become a very regular part of his conversations.

No matter what subject comes up among our family members, it turns out Jelly has had a related experience.  For instance, when Pete mentioned that he bought plane tickets to Minnesota, we found out that Jelly had just been to Minnesota, and in fact she had died there.  Death happens to Jelly a lot.  And yet somehow, she is always having yet another adventure an hour later.

Poor Jelly has died in hospitals, in car accidents, in oceans, from gunshots....   She has also been sick often, had many bouts with cancer, and has had a LOT of surgeries.  A few days ago I found out that Jelly lost all of her fingers, except one.  But she always lives to see another day.  She's apparently quite the fighter.

Happily for Jelly, though, she does get to do some non-life-threatening things... at least for a little while.  I just heard that she and Colsen are scheduled to leave on a trip for Africa to "pick up a friend, and then go to Ohio."  Tonight at the dinner table we found out that we won't be able to see Jelly when we get back from Moldova because right when we're coming back, she is getting on an airplane to go to Moldova -- "for 9 nights and 6 days."  And the reason she is going is apparently because "there is a big important speech there that she has to go to, and then she is going to teach people about God."  Good for Jelly.

May she continue to lead an adventurous, victorious life.

When we gave Colsen his name, which means "of a victorious people," this isn't exactly what we were picturing....  but I guess that's how it's playing out for now!

  1. He is so creative - I don't know where he comes up with his material, but I think he definitely has a career in comedy ahead!
