Conclusion of Classical Conversations: Closing Ceremony

Our time with Classical Conversations has flown by! We wrapped up our 24-week session this past Friday with a big ceremony.

Both Strider and Rayna have greatly enjoyed their classes this year -- they both had excellent tutor/teachers who came up with all kinds of creative activities to help them learn. And they made a lot of good friends, too. They worked hard over the year, memorizing all kinds of facts that I never even knew before... like "What are the ocean zones?" (answer: photic, bathyl, abyssal).

Both Strider and Rayna received the Bible award for memorizing Exodus 20:1-17...
Strider also received the Memory Master medal, after being tested on ALL of the hundreds of history, science, Latin, English, geography, and math facts that they worked on this year, as well as memorizing all 160-something Timeline cards in order.

Each class presented something about one of the facts they'd learned. Here's Strider's class showing (and singing about) the Greek and Roman gods.

Rayna's class (and we parents) demonstrated the Associative Law and Distributive Law in math:
We brought our own cheering section to the ceremony (including Nonna, but I have no pictures of her! :( )

Here are just some random pictures of the kids in their classes, taken earlier. They got to do so many fun things. Like, going on a treasure hunt using compass directions and measuring tape...
finding the treasure...
learning about South America...

singing/re-enacting a history sentence about Napoleon, King John VI and Dom Pedro (who we adults mistakenly called Dom Perignon)...
reciting the American presidents...
learning about how a compass works...

looking at rock samples and identifying minerals...

and hearing fellow students' presentations.
It was definitely a great experience and we're thankful for it!
